How many stalls had they visited? They were all so delicious that the prince couldnât fairly judge them against each other. Ein and Lily were now seated on an open bench, gazing at the cityscape.
âWe ate so much,â Lily said.
âAnd Iâm looking for round two,â Ein replied.
âAye aye, sir! Iâll go with you!â
After eating so much, their pair had become pretty full. Every time they breathed, they could feel the seafood that theyâd eaten permeating throughout their body. Satisfaction filled his mind as he surrendered himself to his feelings of laziness, leading the pair to rest for a good while.
âHmm?â Lily said, standing up. âI received a message, so Iâll be back in a moment.â
âCanât you just do it here?â Ein asked.
âWell, I wouldnât want anyone to hear me. Itâd be quite troublesome if they did. Oh, but my subordinates are on guard all around you, so thereâs nothing to worry about!â
She left, telling the boy that sheâd be back in a while. Now all by his lonesome, Ein continued resting as another robed person sat down beside him. The person next to him looked like they were exhausted.
âIâm a little tired...â the robed person said. Ein couldnât see their face, but it sounded like a womanâs voice.
As she spoke to herself, she started rubbing her legs. Was she walking for quite some time? Ein wondered. Knowing it was a bit rude, he couldnât help but peer at her.
âI wouldnât want to sleep out on the streets...â she mumbled.
On the streets? Ein wondered if she came all the way to Magna only to be forced to sleep outside.
âUm...â Ein said, feeling compelled to call out to her. âPardon me, but are you having trouble finding an inn for the night?â
The woman looked a little surprised, but she immediately gathered herself and replied, âExactly so. Itâs quite embarrassing for me to admit, but I didnât think this city would be so busy.â
âHa ha, I see. Indeed, itâs quite a crowd.â
âAre you a traveler?â
âUnfortunately, no. I tend to spend most of my days in the royal capital.â
âAre you actually a nobleman, then?â
âWell...not exactly. My rank is a bit troublesome to explain, you see.â He felt like royalty was in a different category.
âThen I wonât pry any further. Thatâs more convenient for you, isnât it?â
She quickly caught on to his reluctance to divulge and let it slide. Ein thanked her for her understanding as a smile slowly formed on his face.
He chuckled. âThen why donât I provide you with a token of my appreciation? In exchange for your polite manners, of course.â
âA man of your station went out of their way to speak with someone such as myself. Perhaps I should be the one thanking you.â
âIf a merchant decided to charge others for a mere conversation, theyâd soon become obsolete.â
Ein had planned on waiting for Lily, but he didnât want to abandon this robed woman. Lilyâs subordinates would surely fill her in later, so Ein resolved to help the robed woman find a place to stay.
